In INDIA, there are literally millions of children who are being forced to work as slaves- more than any other country. India is fascinating in that it has the second largest population on earth and is growing and modernizing at a pace only rivaled by China. Due to sheer numbers, India has the most millionaires than any other country in the world. It also, however, has more desperately poor people than anywhere else. So while India is becoming one of the world's technology hubs, like parts of Africa, there are millions of people who remain untouched by technological advances and live with very limited communication.
I worked on a documentary for the Oxygen Network called, "Slave Girls of India." For it, I met extraordinary girls who had been rescued from forced labor and sex slavery and went on to become front line activists. One girl, Rinku was sold by an aunt into a brothel at 12 years old. She was rescued at 17 and now works for an amazing organization called STOP. What Rinku does is truly unbelievable. This young girl literally goes undercover into extremely dangerous situations and helps to rescue other girls who've been forced into brothels. Rinku has committed her life to saving young girls from slavery. Her story proves that by saving one, you can save many.
